Composite Mesh – Trokotex

Currently, in all areas of infrastructure construction, reinforced concrete technology is used. Reinforced concrete structures are a combination of steel and concrete. It’s hard to imagine modern construction without this material, especially since the combination of steel and concrete allows for optimal utilization of the best properties of both materials.

But is it really? While concrete in such structures bears significant compressive stresses, and steel reinforcement bears significant tensile stresses, the weak point of such constructions is precisely the steel, which, under the influence of harmful contaminants or carbonation of concrete, undergoes corrosion. Corrosion of steel is an almost unavoidable process. The points of corrosion that form are the cause of stress, cracking, and spalling of concrete cover, completely exposing the metal reinforcement. Corrosion of steel reinforcement leads to a decrease in the structural strength and, consequently, its destruction.

concrete reinforcing mesh

The best way to extend the durability of concrete structures.

Composite mesh for reinforcing concrete is primarily used in construction to strengthen reinforced concrete elements: screeds, floors, walls, ceilings, as well as in structural elements such as concrete pads, roads, and bridges.

The purpose of using composite mesh is to increase the strength of the structure and substrate, provide resistance to shrinkage, and optionally protect underfloor heating.

Reinforcement meshes made of TROKOTEX composite, available on the Polish construction market, are designed for use in concrete structures instead of traditional steel reinforcement. This is an innovative solution produced using the pultrusion method. As a result of this process, a composite is created consisting of a large number of individual fibers arranged in parallel, embedded in a polymer matrix based on epoxy resin.

Composite mesh for concrete reinforcement – a modern alternative to steel

Composite mesh for concrete reinforcement is becoming an increasingly popular solution in modern construction projects. Unlike traditional steel mesh, composite alternatives are lightweight, non-corrosive and manufactured using advanced fibre technology. These properties make them ideal for environments where rust and environmental degradation are major concerns. Their resistance to load bending tensile force ensures they offer superior performance, especially in areas where cracks in concrete would otherwise form due to pressure or weather changes.

Whether used in concrete slabs, pathways or precast elements, this concrete mesh ensures long-lasting structural integrity while remaining easier to lay, transport and pack. Thanks to their lightweight nature, composite meshes reduce installation time and labour costs, offering efficiency without compromising strength.

Advantages and benefits

Benefits of using TROKOTEX meshes made of epoxy resin-based composites and glass fibers:

Investor savings – due to the fully automated production system, composite mesh is CHEAPER than steel.

Composite glass fiber meshes consist of rods with diameters of 3, 4 mm, bound in meshes ranging from 50 to 150 mm, most importantly, they are completely drawn with a spacing of 10 columns. They are distributed in rolls and sheets, optimizing transportation costs.

No maintenance

Lighter 9 times than steel

Up to 30% cheaper than steel

High adhesion to concrete

Concrete reinforcing mesh in stock and ready for delivery

Trokotex provides concrete reinforcing mesh in various sizes and configurations, readily available from stock. All products are manufactured according to strict quality standards, making them ideal for both large-scale infrastructure and smaller private construction projects.

Thanks to their lightweight properties, composite meshes can be handled by fewer workers, which significantly speeds up the reinforcement stage. Once laid and covered with concrete, they bond effectively to support the entire structure. Their flexible yet strong design provides the necessary resistance to tensile forces, making them a reliable reinforcement choice in both urban and industrial applications.

GRP mesh

Concrete reinforcement mesh vs traditional steel mesh

When it comes to choosing the right material for concrete reinforcement, many engineers and contractors now prefer composite over traditional steel mesh. One of the key benefits is the absence of rust, which typically compromises the durability of steel in humid or aggressive environments. Moreover, while steel is often welded and heavy to handle, composite reinforcement meshes are supplied packed and ready to lay, cutting down time on-site.

In addition, composite concrete reinforcement mesh absorbs and redistributes load bending tensile force more evenly, which contributes to fewer cracks and a more stable construction. Composite mesh is commonly used in applications such as industrial floors, concrete slabs, pathways, and prefabricated panels – anywhere structural integrity and long service life are essential.
